Here is a picture of William Henry Harrison. He was was the 9th president of the United States. He served in 1841 and is still the president who served the shortest term. He was a General in the War of 1812 and held many other government positions later in his life. Harrison had 10 children and one of his children will become president too.
This is a picture of the votes by county between William Henry Harrison and Martin Van Buren in 1840. This would be the second time Harrison has ran against Van Buren for president. Harrison only won the popular vote by 146,000 votes but had a great victory for electoral votes being it was 234 to 60. On the map there are 1,179 counties and Harrison won 699 and Van Buren won 477, but three counties split evenly between them. Van Buren only served one term and Harrison took office in 1841.
These are slogans that were made to make William Henry Harrison seem like a common man in the election of 1840. The Whig party (William Henry Harrison’s party) also campaigned using Harrison’s military career to their advantage. One of the very popular slogans was “Tippecanoe and Tyler too”. This slogan referred to Harrison’s military career for he was said to be the hero at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The slogans used greatly helped Harrison’s popularity with the people and helped lead Harrison to victory in the election.
This is one of the signs portraying William Henry Harrison as a common man. This wasn’t true for Harrison lived in a big mansion while he was the governor of the Indiana Territory. When he left the army though he did have log cabin but in North Bend, Ohio but it was a large log cabin. These signs showed some people exactly what they wanted for a president.
